The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the arts of performing, and which are now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to the "child prodigy" category. This is a natural characteristic for a girl of Irish origin, and who was surrounded in her early days by talented relatives and parents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athletic natural and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. This is why she won the majority of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her home country. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study the classical theater and operatic singing.
